We build Shopify themes, and we kept redoing the same work
Molt comes from Hunni Development, a Shopify agency that has worked on more than a hundred stores.
A store pays for a custom size guide, a delivery note and a free shipping bar. A year later the theme has a newer version with fixes the store wants. Someone has to find every edit, copy it across and check every page. That someone is usually a developer on an invoice, so the update waits.
We wrote Molt to do that work and show it. It's the same job we do by hand: read the theme, compare it with the original, carry the edits across, open the pages and let the merchant decide.
Who makes it
Hunni Development is led by Daniel Hunninghake. Molt is our second Shopify app, after SiteRemora, which writes accessibility fixes into Shopify themes.
Shopify's approval for theme changes
Apps need Shopify's approval to change theme files. Shopify approved Molt's request on November 5, 2026, for backing up and restoring themes and for upgrades that keep a store's customizations. Molt uses that access to write to unpublished themes it creates, and to publish when a merchant clicks Publish. Security and data has the details.
