Changelog

What changed in Molt, newest first. Versions below 1.0 came before the App Store listing.

Store passwords and files a release needs

0.5.0, November 6, 2026

Molt can now compare pages on a password-protected store, and an upgrade keeps every file the new release depends on.

Added

  • A field on the review page for your storefront password. Molt checks it, keeps it encrypted, and uses it for later upgrades until you remove it.
  • When a store has removed a file the new release needs, Molt brings back the release's copy and lists it for your review.

Fixed

  • On a password-protected store, every page compared as the password page and read as unchanged. The review page now says so and asks for the password.
  • A page that fails to load on both themes no longer reads as broken by the upgrade.
  • A review card shows each reason once.
  • Custom text missing from a language the new release adds no longer counts as a new problem.

Upgrades through Shopify's Admin API

0.4.0, November 5, 2026

Shopify approved Molt's request to change themes, and every upgrade, publish and restore now runs inside the app.

Added

  • Prepare upgrade, Publish, Roll back, Restore as a new theme and Remove draft all work from the hosted app.
  • Molt checks every uploaded file against the store, and removes an unfinished draft if an upload fails.

Fixed

  • Recent activity counts customizations, matching the review page.

Every Horizon release, and a clearer theme page

0.3.0, November 5, 2026

Molt now knows all 26 Horizon releases from 2.0.3 to 4.4.0, and the theme page separates code from settings.

Added

  • A theme's page now lists code changes apart from settings and content, and says when a theme's code matches the original release.

Fixed

  • A Horizon theme fresh from Shopify read as heavily customized, because Shopify's copy differs from the public release in blank lines. It now reads as unchanged code.
  • A scan of an untouched theme takes under 20 seconds.

Tested on 446 public themes

0.2.0, November 4, 2026

Merging public Dawn themes turned up six engine problems, all fixed, along with customer account handling and plans.

Added

  • Molt reads which customer accounts version your store uses and tells you what a release's removed account pages mean for you. Stores on classic accounts confirm before publishing.
  • Four plans, billed through Shopify.
  • Agency linking, with a dashboard across client stores.

Fixed

  • A check after each merge now confirms every line you added is still in the result.
  • A theme whose label names the wrong version now compares with the release its code matches.
  • A template that only repeats a section's defaults no longer counts as edited.

First hosted version

0.1.0, November 3, 2026

The first version of Molt running inside the Shopify admin, on our development store.

Added

  • What's different in this theme: every change against the original release, named in plain words.
  • Full theme backups, and restore as a new theme.
  • The review page: what happened to each customization, pages side by side, and Keep my current layout.
  • Remove a draft that Molt created.
  • Privacy policy, and deletion of a store's data on Shopify's request.
