Backups and restore
A backup is a full copy of a theme, kept outside your store. A restore adds it as a new theme.
A backup holds every file of a theme, with the store, theme, version and time it was taken.
Taking a backup
Every upgrade starts with one automatically. To take one yourself, click Back up beside a theme on the Themes page.
Restoring
On Backups, click Restore as a new theme. Molt adds the copy as a new unpublished theme named after the original and the date. Your live theme and your drafts stay as they are. Publish the restored theme from Shopify's themes page if you want it live.
How long backups last
| Plan | Backups kept |
|---|---|
| Free | 3, for 7 days |
| Pay per upgrade | 10, for 30 days |
| Current | All, for 90 days |
| Studio | All, for 90 days |
A backup that a recent upgrade depends on is kept until that upgrade's rollback window closes.
Molt's backups are deleted after you uninstall. Restore anything you want to keep first. See Uninstalling.
