Troubleshooting

What to do when an upgrade stops, a theme shows No clean copy, or pages won't compare.

A theme shows No clean copy

Molt doesn't hold the original release of this theme. See Supported themes. You can still back it up and restore it.

The upgrade stopped

The red banner gives the reason. Your live theme is unchanged, and Molt removes any unfinished draft.

Shopify refused a file

Shopify validates each file on upload. The message names the file and Shopify's reason. Common causes are a template using a block the release no longer allows, or Liquid that Shopify rejects in that version. Send us the message, or ask your developer to look at that file. Choosing a newer release sometimes clears it.

Some files could not be merged

Molt stops before uploading if a file still has an unresolved conflict. Email us with the Activity log.

The server restarted

Run the upgrade again. Molt marks it stopped so you aren't left waiting, and nothing was published.

Molt couldn't open your pages

Your store has a password page. Enter the password under How your pages look. See Compare your pages.

Shopify turned the password away

Check it under Online Store, Preferences. Shopify's password page is separate from your Shopify login. After several wrong tries Shopify may slow further attempts, so wait a minute and try again.

Molt says it can't prepare an upgrade

Check Plan. The Free plan lists customizations and keeps backups, and paid plans prepare upgrades. Pay per upgrade allows three unpublished upgrades a month, so publish or wait for the next month.

Your store has too many themes

A store holds 20. Remove a draft, or delete a theme from Shopify's themes page.

Something looks wrong after publishing

Click Roll back to the previous theme, then email us.
